The flagship Pennywise store in Ipswich, was purchased in 1994 and is well known locally for sales, loans and offer opportunities to swap personal collateral for cash, without question.

Originally the store sold second hand furniture only, and then included the pawnbroking side of the business. Since then, Pennywise has been instrumental in breaking down the unhelpful pawnbroking stereotypes and lay claim to being ‘The People’s Pawnbroker.’

Pennywise is particularly proud of its staff, who are more interested in forming relationships than “merely processing transactions”. Our team represents the Aussie values of ‘fair dinkum’ for everyone who enters the store. They are interested in ‘hard yakka’ and ‘helping out your mate’.

These values resonate with our team, because we have seen a high level of loyalty with staff, more than 8 people have stayed with the company for over 9 years and some over 15 years! Not including the Directors, there is approximately 60 years of experience in this industry within Pennywise.

The series of stores include Ipswich, Goodna, Browns Plains & Beenleigh, Hervey Bay as well as Toowoomba, with more exciting plans for growth across the next years.

Pennywise Ipswich won the prestigious 2016 Business of the Year Award, which acknowledged all the hard work, time and commitment the Pennywise team has put into the business for 21 years. This award was also dedicated to the unwavering support of the Ipswich community and council, and the store’s employees.
